Multi-award winning safety footwear company choose Global Navigator for a tailored solution to export documentation.

Rock Fall is a highly successful family run business. It has won multiple converted business awards in recognition of its safety footwear. The business has grown 387% in the past 5 years to in excess of £8.5m or around 600,000 pairs of boots per year.

To manage this rapid growth, it has invested in the latest technology, implementing an enterprise business management system. Much of their recent growth is from exporting their innovative and stylish safety footwear to an ‘ever-increasing’ number of countries across the globe.

Department for International Trade recommended Spatial Global

The safety footwear manufacturer was researching the international trade documentation requirements for Qatar with representatives of the DTI, who recommended they talk with Spatial Global. When Rachel Morley carried out the free Global Navigator Audit to get to grips on the products exported and processes used at Rock Fall, she was able to quickly identify some operational improvements. One aspect was time; the business was spending hours and days reprocessing information to ensure their international documentation was compliant. With the efficiencies implemented, Rock Falls’ management team revealed other frustrations they had with their documentation and export processes.

Finding a specialist partner meant that their rapid international growth was easier to manage

The business owners have a philosophy of focusing their attention only on the areas within their expertise. However, with growing export sales, the need to manage the documentation had grown silently and organically. It wasn’t until a specialist in the area provided insights into efficiencies, that the directors realised their philosophy wasn’t being applied in this area. The strategy to only focus on ‘their area of expertise’ and bring trusted suppliers onboard for non-core areas had drifted with export documentation.

We’ve managed to build some amazing momentum in recent years by sticking to our niche and continuing to solve footwear problems for specific industries.

Global Freight Navigator, reduced costs, improved processes and helped mitigate Brexit risks

Outsourcing their international trade documentation to a specialist wasn’t something Rock Fall had considered. However, with the UK leaving the European Union, Rock Fall management had identified they needed to mitigate their Brexit risks. Researching the documentation requirements for Qatar and the introduction to Spatial Global had helped the directors step back for a second and identify a better way of working. It provided expertise on the possible Brexit risks and contingency planning for the various scenarios.

The savings were quantifiable by measuring the people and time released from the resource consuming processing of creating export docs, combined with the reduced risk of exposing commercial secrets and the potential costs of getting the documentation wrong. Now the manufacturer has ‘on tap’ in-house skills, professional international trade documentation systems and access to knowledge on global routes to market. This is outsourced by subscribing to Global Freight Navigator – a Spatial Global tailored international trade documentation solution.

The easiest way I can explain this is, it is a ‘pay-as-you-go’ international documentation service which is as convenient as having an in-house team, but without the investment in training or time required to research exporting routes to new markets.
