How will Brexit affect imports and exports?

Government warning time running out for importers and exporters ahead of Brexit, Spatial Global launch free information hub to guide you through the transition.

While most businesses have their hands full with the economic fallout of Covid-19, the government are warning that time is running out for businesses who are insufficiently prepared for a no deal exit from the European Union in January.

The transition period will not be extended

The Manifesto with which the current UK Government was elected was explicit in its commitment. "We will not extend the transition period beyond December 2020". The rationale behind this is it would simply prolong negotiations and business uncertainty. In making this decision the UK Government have announced Customs Simplified Freight Procedure in an attempt to provide a light touch for non-controlled goods on imports. Providing six months to declare and the opportunity to defer the payment of duties and VAT with certain conditions.
