Suez Canal Warning
20th December 2023
Expect longer transit times, vessel delays, and possible handling obstacles due to port congestion as freight ships decide not to sail via the Suez Canal.
Attacks on merchant ships
The attacks are having an effect to all vessels operating in the region, including those transiting to & from the Mediterranean on East/West trading routes. This of course has now impacted container shipping services too with Hapag-Lloyd, CMA-CGM, Maersk and MSC so far, all deciding to not to sail via the Suez Canal until circumstances change, in the meantime ships will have to take alternative routing around the Cape of Good Hope.
The disruption caused will have significant impact to transit times, published schedules and potentially space availability on the trade along with an increase to costs & new surcharges. To understand if your shipments could be affected, we’d recommend speaking with your contacts at Spatial Global at the earliest opportunity to discuss any possible impact and contingent arrangements where available.
We shall of course continue to monitor the situation closely & provide updates as they become available.
Many thanks and kind regards
Rob
